MEDLINE is one of the most important information sources in medicine and related life sciences. Complete bibliographical database MEDLINE (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online) from U.S. National Library of Medicine includes more than 19 million citations (july 2012) from 1946 till today, about 700,000 citations are added annually.
Citations and abstracts (about 70 % citations after 1975 include abstracts) cover worldwide medicine literature including research, clinical practice, administration, political aspects and services for health protection.
Records with bibliographic description and abstracts are indexed from app. 5,600 specialized journals in 39 languages, database also comprises chapters and articles from selected monographs. MEDLINE uses MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) indexing with tree, tree hierarchy and subheadings.
